GENERAL RULES

It is forbidden not to touch, not to be curious, not to experiment and not to imagine while visiting the Museum.

It is also forbidden

• talk on the phone in the exhibition rooms; please turn off your cell phone ringtone
• raise your voice; it is preferable to observe silence in the rooms
• run and sit on the ground in the rooms
• introduce food and drink
• take photos and videos; to take professional photos and videos a written request  must be submitted in advance for the Managements authorization.
• introduce bulky bags, backpacks, umbrellas and any other objects judged inappropriate by the security staff; these must be left in the reception area, where they will be kept free of charge in a disposable plastic bag provided by the Museum
• to enter the museum wearing bathing suits or skimpy clothing for the sake of decorum and respect for visitors
• leave papers, cans, bottles or other waste, unless in the appropriate containers, in the areas outside the exhibition.

Please be advised that

• the visit to the museum has a maximum duration of 45 minutes
• during the entire visit to the museum, the staff is authorized to request your entrance ticket: please keep it carefully until the end of the visit
• the visit path has been established indicating the itineraries and to favour the flow of the public; therefore it is necessary not to go outside the paths and not to overcome the eventual arranged barriers
• it is recommended not to forget any object, because personal belongings cannot be kept at the Museum.

ROLE OF THE STAFF

The staff is at visitors’ disposal for general information on the itineraries, the collections and the museum system; they are also responsible for the safety of the works and the success of the visit: the instructions and directions of the surveillance staff must therefore be carefully followed.

In the case of persistent behavior incompatible with these mandatory requirements, the staff will have the right to have the person responsible for such behavior removed from the museum, while the management reserves the right to take all appropriate initiatives and measures.

GUIDED TOURS

Guided tours may only be conducted by a tour guide, a teacher acting as guide for the class he/she is accompanying, a concessionaire’s educational operator, museum staff or other person authorized exclusively by museum management.

RULES OF CONDUCT FOR GROUPS AND SCHOOL GROUPS

• It is appropriate and proper to remain in a group following the guide without shouting or talking loudly or – especially with reference to children – running or playing; in general, a coherent and polite behavior is required, such as not to cause damage to the exhibited works or disturb other guests.
• Teachers are responsible for the behavior of the students entrusted to them. It will be their task to maintain the proper conduct of the children consistent with the regulations.
• Adults are responsible for the behavior of the children they accompany and are liable for any damage caused inside the structure or to others.
• The Museum of Syracuse is exempt from any responsibility in case of damage to people or things, due to a wrongful behavior by visitors. Should inappropriate and/or disrespectful behavior occur, museum personnel may exercise the right to ban the visitor.
• The Museum of Syracuse is also a place for children. We remind you to be careful with your language, as children’s ears are always open and highly receptive.
• For security and organizational reasons, it will not be possible to leave or re-enter the museum during the visit. Should this occur, please inform the Museum staff, who will provide visitors with a special badge to gain re-entry.
• Children may not be left alone in any area of the museum without adult supervision.

LIABILITY

The Museum is relieved of any responsibility for damage to persons or property caused by failure to comply with these regulations.

SAFE ACCESS (COVID-19)

In order to guarantee the best protection for visitors and to avoid the risk of contagion as much as possible, the Museum of Syracuse has activated the necessary security measures for the containment of COVID-19.

Here is some useful information for the visit.

• During your permanence in the museum it is necessary to always maintain a distance of (1 meter)  between people and avoid crowding. The use of the mask is mandatory, even for children over 6 years old.
• Only one person can enter the ticket office at a time; other visitors are asked to wait in line, keeping a safe distance, according to the instructions provided by the reception staff.
• At the entrance of the museums, body temperature will be taken and access will not be allowed if the temperature is higher than 37.5°.
• Hydro-alcoholic solutions for hand hygiene will be made available at different points inside the Museum. It is compulsory to use it before entering the Museum and to touch all interactive installations in the exhibitions, inside the laboratories and for any activity that requires it.
• Access to the exhibition rooms is limited to a maximum of 20 people, according to slots calculated on the size and logistics of the spaces.
• In order to regulate crowding a maximum stay of 45 minutes is possible.
• Inside the museum, visits can always be made along the route indicated by the signs and/or museum personnel.
• Inside the exhibition halls, the usual permission to touch the machines remains, where there is no sign; don’t touch. To operate machinery, visitors must contact museum personnel, who will provide them with appropriate gloves. At the end of the visit, gloves must be thrown into the appropriate container located near the museum exit.
• The materials in the bookshop must not be touched; in case of need, it is possible to ask to see them together with the staff.
• For the use of the toilets, the indications displayed in the toilets must be respected.

THE STAFF OF THE SYRACUSE MUSEUM

The cleaning and sanitizing of the exhibition halls, hygienic areas and fittings are carried out daily by the internal cleaning staff using specific products.

We thank our future visitors for their cooperation, prudence, responsibility and patience in respecting the visiting regulations. We are aware that these regulations may be perceived as an obstacle of visiting, but at the same time we believe that this is the moment to return to the places of the heart or to discover small hidden jewels within our territory and we hope that the limited admissions will allow you to rediscover the museum in a more intimate and personal aspect, guaranteeing you a unique visit.
