Visiting with your family
Is the museum also suitable for families with children?
Yes. The Archimedes and Leonardo Museum of Syracuse also welcomes families with children through a scientific and interactive route designed as a high-quality shared experience.
The visit follows Learning by Understanding — the educational method of the Archimedes and Leonardo Museum of Syracuse, based on the principle that practical experience acquires full educational value when it is preceded and accompanied by observation, understanding, mediation and sharing.
Children and younger visitors are guided in observing and understanding the models, while interaction with the exhibits takes place through the mediation of accompanying adults and according to the museum’s guidelines.
The visit is not conceived as a recreational activity or as simple entertainment: parents and accompanying adults actively participate in the route, helping children observe the models, read the content and understand how they work.
Can children touch the models directly?
No. Interactivity at the Archimedes and Leonardo Museum is aimed at understanding scientific and mechanical principles, not at simply using the models. During the visit, accompanying adults therefore guide the experience, following the instructions provided along the route and those given by the museum staff.
Learning does not come from the simple act of touching or operating a model: practical experience acquires value when it is transformed into understanding.
What is the role of parents during the visit?
Parents and accompanying adults play an active role in the museum experience. They are not simply accompanying visitors, but become true mediators of discovery, helping younger visitors observe, read, ask questions and understand what they encounter along the route.
They are supported by the information panels placed next to each model, with different levels of interpretation, and by the multilingual digital tour of the Archimedes and Leonardo Museum, which allows visitors to explore the content in greater depth during the visit.
In this way, the visit can become a moment of learning and quality time shared between adults and younger visitors.
