Syracuse in One Day: The Best of the City in a Single Day
If you only have one day available and are wondering things to do in Syracuse in one day, this itinerary will help you visit some of the city’s must-see places without wasting time on unnecessary transfers. The route starts at Neapolis and continues towards Ortigia, combining archaeology, history, science and the sea. The day ends at Maniace Castle, where you can enjoy the sunset over the Mediterranean.

The day begins at 9:00 a.m. at Neapolis, with a visit lasting until 10:20 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., head towards Ortigia. We recommend taking the Red Line bus and asking the driver to let you off before the bridges, on Via Umberto. Arrival is expected at around 11:00 a.m. From here, you can walk through the Ortigia Market and continue to the Temple of Apollo, allowing around twenty minutes for this part of the route. At 11:25 a.m., visit the Archimedes and Leonardo Museum, with the visit ending at around 12:00 noon.

From 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m., take a lunch break and enjoy some free time in the historic centre. At 3:00 p.m., continue towards Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral, allowing around one hour to explore both the square and the Cathedral. At 4:10 p.m., reach the Arethusa Spring for a short stop until around 4:30 p.m.
At 5:00 p.m., continue towards Maniace Castle, allowing around one hour for the visit, until 6:00 p.m. Afterwards, we recommend making your way back slowly along the waterfront and enjoying the sunset over Ortigia and the Mediterranean, leaving the rest of the evening free.
